During your fitness journey, you have likely faced many ups and downs, especially when it comes to finding the motivation to go to the gym. Although you are not alone in this challenge, it is important that you keep yourself on track.

One of the best ways to boost your motivation is to switch up your usual routine — perhaps by working out in the comfort of your own home. While this could pose some serious threats to your productivity, it is worth a shot, especially if you can discover new exercises that make working out a more enjoyable and rewarding experience.

With that in mind, here are several home exercises you can do when you do not feel like going to the gym:

Commandos

This intense variation of the traditional push-up will get your heart pumping in no time at all, as it works both your arms and your core. This exercise is performed by doing a normal push-up, then touching one knee to your hand at the top of each rep. As you begin to get used to the motions, push yourself further and attempt to touch your knee to your elbow instead.

Jump lunges

This exercise is relatively self-explanatory, but it takes quite a bit of coordination to perform. To begin, stand with your legs staggered, one foot in front of the other and both knees bent slightly. Engage your core then push off into a jump, switching your legs mid-air to land in a traditional lunge. Do up to three sets of 20 reps in order to feel the full effects of this intense lower-body workout.

Mountain climbers

Seeing as this intense exercise works nearly every muscle group in your body, you are bound to break a sweat. Begin in a push-up position, your weight supported by your arms and feet, then bring one knee up to about your hip. From there, you must rapidly switch the position of your legs as if you were running in place. Keep your core engaged as you repeat these alternating motions for increments of 20-30 seconds.

Jumping rope

Although jumping rope sounds like a simple — if not mundane — exercise, it is one of the most intense and effective cardio workouts you can perform at home. Additionally, there are countless routines you can try in order to get the most out of this exercise. Try some jump rope speed steps, or even incorporating the previously mentioned exercises into a high-speed, full-body circuit. No matter how you choose to jump rope, you will definitely feel the burn.
