What Happened with Germany in the World Cup?

What Happened with Germany in the World Cup?

Going into the World Cup this year, Germany was ones of the favorites to win. After taking home the champion title last World Cup, nearly everyone thought Germany would do well again. They had a 10.62% chance of taking home the title again this year, which are very strong odds. Unfortunately, these predictions for Germany didn’t hold true and there was some major upset in the World Cup standings after the game between Germany and South Korea.

What happened?

On June 27th, 2018, the German football team went up against South Korea and did not come out the winners. Germany lost the game 0-2 and launched plenty of headlines about the shocking upset. Football fans around the world were shocked, none more than fans of Germany. No one really expected South Korea to perform like they did, especially when it came to beating Germany, a team that was expected to easily make it to the finals.

In response to Germany’s loss, publications around the world carried headlines about it, many poking fun at the team and their home country. These headlines brought politics into the center of Germany’s defeat, featuring various opinions on the country. Many headlines made references to current and past historic events, ranging from people’s opinions of Chancellor Angela Merkel to WWII to Napoleon conquering Russia. However, these references to politics should come as no surprise to fans, since the World Cup is always rife with them.

Why?

So, what led to Germany’s catastrophic loss? South Korea somehow managed to score two goals against the German team, including one in the 92nd minute of the match. As many people wonder how Germany was defeated so soundly, it has been suggested that a large part of it is due to the team’s overconfidence in their ability to win. Commentators believe Germany’s success in the previous World Cup led them to underestimate the amount of effort they’d need to put into their matches this year.

Moving forward

Many fans are wondering what this upset means for the rest of the tournament. While there are still plenty of teams left in the World Cup, a favorite has been pushed out in a startingly defeat. Moving forward, rankings are a bit different, predictions have been ruined, and it’s time the reevaluate team standings. Without Germany, there are openings for new teams to move up and pose themselves for victory. It’s also worth considering: if Germany was so easily defeated by an unexpected team, what other upsets could occur in the next couple of weeks?

Predictions for the 2018 World Cup

Predictions for the 2018 World Cup

Soccer fans around the world are anticipating the start of the 2018 World Cup, set to begin on June 14. Russia will be hosting the 21st FIFA World Cup, which is the first time a European country has held the tournament since Germany in 2006. Thirty-two teams will compete in a total of 64 matches throughout 11 cities in Russia. The final match, which occurs on July 15, will be held at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow.

Twenty out of the total 32 competing teams played in the last World Cup, which was held in Brazil in 2014. Germany was victorious in that tournament, and they are also one of the top contenders in this World Cup. Soccer enthusiasts are already compiling lists of who they think will win this year’s competition and what each teams chances are.

Leading the pack with a 50.33% chance of making it into the final 16 teams is Brazil. Their first game will be held on June 17 against Switzerland at the Rostov Arena in Rostov-On-Don. They have a 34.20% chance of making it into the quarterfinals, a 21.26% chance of making it to the semifinals, and a 13.34% chance of making it to the final game.

Not far behind them are the defending World Cup champs, Germany. They are predicted to have a 45.85% chance of making into the top 16 teams, with a 30.35% chance of playing in the quarterfinals, an 18.02% chance of making it to the semifinals, and a 10.62% chance of bringing home the cup for the fifth time.

Other top contenders include Argentina, with a 10.16% chance of winning it all, France with a 9.89% chance, and Spain with a 8.71% chance. In the middle of the pack are Belgium (4.00%), Portugal (3.28%), Uruguay (3.14%), Columbia (2.72%), England (2.22%), and Japan (2.15%).

With a less than two percent chance of making it into the finals, Sweden, Croatia, Mexico, Serbia, Poland, Peru, Australia, Switzerland, Egypt, Nigeria, Iran, Senegal, Denmark, Iceland, Saudi Arabia, Costa Rica, Korea Republic, Tunisia, Panama, and Morocco have their work cut out for them. Host country Russia has a 1.93% chance of making it into the finals when they kick off the tournament on June 14 against Saudi Arabia at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow.

5 Top Premier League Players Ready for an Upgrade

5 Top Premier League Players Ready for an Upgrade

As the Premier League reaches its close, we’re going to see some shakeup on various teams. New players are going to be scouted, some are going to be transferred, and others may be ending their careers. Fans of the English Football League who follow the teams in the Premier League are likely anxious to see how their favorite team fares in transfers and finding new players. Depending who leaves, stays, or joins a team, the tone can be set for that team’s entire upcoming season. So much of a team’s success hangs on how these transfers happen over the summer, so it’s important to pay attention if you want to have an idea of how teams will do in the upcoming season and what players to pay special attention to this year. For some teams, it can be beneficial to transfer some of their players. Here are the top players that could head to a new team.

Kieran Trippier

It seems likely that the Spurs may have been trying to move Trippier out of the starting lineup when they got Serge Aurier, but Aurier proved to not be as reliable as many would have hoped. It’s time to review this teams starting players and see if there are ways the lineup could be improved in a way that sets the team up for a much stronger season this year.

Antonio Valencia

At one time, Jose Mourinho referred to Valencia as “the best right-back,” but that’s no longer the case. Valencia’s playing has slowly begun to wane and his great performances are much less frequent than they once were. It’s time to focus on other players who can provide the assistance the team needs.

Cheikhou Kouyate

For his age and career length, Kouyate should be at his peak playing time. However, over the last season, Kouyate performed worse than he has before. He wasn’t nearly as accurate as he once was and his overall performance has suffered. West Ham needs to evaluate their training and players and aim to do better.

Ashley Williams

For a long time, Williams was at the height of his career and played incredibly well. He moved throughout football easily and was successfully anywhere he played. Now, his playing has been nothing like it once was. As newer players show him up and highlight his weaknesses, it’s becoming apparent he’s not the player he used to be.

Dominic Solanke

It’s time for Liverpool to evaluate their entire team and make some changes. Solanke is by no means a bad player, but Liverpool has drastically improved in the past season and they need players that reflect that new position. When Gareth Bale substituted for Solanke, he scored more goals than Solanke had throughout the past season. It’s likely Solanke will become an even more incredible player with time and training, but Liverpool needs great players now.

About Nicholas Fainlight

Nicholas Fainlight has played a number of sports throughout his life, such as football, basketball, baseball and water polo. He has always enjoyed being active, but swimming is his biggest passion.

Swimming was not always his favorite sport. In fact, he started off with baseball. When he was young, he would always stay in the batting cages working to tweak his technique. He believes that baseball is a great way to focus yourself. Playing baseball and working on tuning his technique was extremely important to Fainlight. It allowed him to control his mind and keep it in tune with his body.

It was this precision and fine-tuning that allowed Nicholas Fainlight to fall in love with swimming as well. He got involved with swimming when he was a freshman in high school. He had been playing football, but had grown tired of it and wanted to change things up. His advisor suggested that he try out water polo since he had good arms from playing baseball. Fainlight took up the sport and it immediately clicked. Once the water polo season ended, he noticed that most of the water polo team stayed in the water by participating in the swim team during swim season. He figured he’d join in and do swimming as well. He did not yet know how important swimming would be to him.

The swim team was a close-knit group of guys that were like a family. They all worked hard and supported each other, pushing each other to succeed. Fainlight realized what a beautiful sport swimming is and it got him through high school.

Nicholas Fainlight loves everything about swimming. He loves how smooth and fluid it is. Just like baseball, swimming allows you to keep your body and mind in sync with one another. Swimming is a personal sport but a team sport at the same time. Fainlight loves being in the water and thinking about how to be as streamlined as possible. The smallest technical things can make or break a swimmer, and he is fascinated by this. Swimming is a sport that pushes you to work harder to be faster than the person next to you. Fainlight likes to use this drive to get better throughout all aspects of his life.

Sports are very important to one’s development, as Nicholas Fainlight learned in a class about associating, leading, and serving. In this class, he learned that athletics allows a kid to learn at an early age whether he or she is a leading personality or an aiding personality. Sports allow kids to build camaraderie at a young age and also build respect for adults. When a young person joins a sports team, he or she is given people to look up to and a team to go to for support. Athletic kids can also learn that there is not one way to do things right.

Nicholas Fainlight believes that the most important thing to get out of athletics is confidence. As a young child, he was quiet and shy, but he was able to relax once he got into baseball. From then on, he enjoyed sports as a way to stay active and to be around people. He remains passionate about swimming and also golf as a hobby.
